“In December, total daily traded volumes were USD1.76 trillion, down 1.3% compared to November 2020. There was a slight increase in FX swap volumes of 2.3%, while FX spot and FX forward volumes experienced sharp declines of 9.3% and 9.2%, respectively.
“Compared to December 2019, FX spot, FX swap and FX forward volumes all increased significantly by 10.3%, 10.7% and 6.0%, respectively. The increase in FX spot volume was largely attributable to the higher volumes recorded for EUR/USD (+30%) and GBP/USD (+10%) over the same period. There was also a record year-on-year FX spot volume increase for USD/HUF of 92%. This coincided with positive news on Hungarian industrial output and a subsequent appreciation against USD.”
